Who We Are / What We Believe

Welcome to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, an exciting and caring fellowship!

Who We Are

Holy Cross is a stimulating spiritual community where we preach the Cross and gratefully live the Grace.  We believe that faith is fun, a healthy alternative to the current culture of cynicism.  Try Joy!

Bring your thoughts and ideas, so that we can enjoy mental challenges.

Bring your hardest problems and most difficult questions, so that together we can struggle and grow.

We can do this because we are fearless friends of the crucified and resurrected Christ!

Come join our family in Christ!  We are holding your reservations at the Lord’s Table.

We are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod.

What We Believe

Lutherans are a diverse group of people, convinced that the Holy Spirit is leading us toward unity in the household of God.

Lutherans believe in the Triune God – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  We are part of God’s unfolding plan.  God created and loves all of creation – the earth, the seas, and all of the world’s inhabitants.  We believe that God’s Son, Jesus Christ, transforms lives through his death on the cross and his new life, and we trust God’s Spirit is active in the World.

When we gather for worship, we connect with believers everywhere and of every time.  We are part of God’s unfolding plan.  When we study the Bible or hear God’s Word in worship, we are drawn more deeply into God’s own saving story.

When we study the Bible and pray, we are drawn more deeply into God’s own saving story.  As Lutherans, we believe that the Bible holds God’s Word.  It creates and nurtures faith through the work of the Holy Spirit and points us to Jesus Christ, the living Word and center of our faith.  In reading the Bible, we are invited into a relationship with God that both challenges us and promises us new life.

When we serve others and address social issues that affect the common good, we live out our Christian faith.  Faithful participation in society is integral and vital mission.  As individual members and as a corporate body this church lives out the Christian faith in encountering the concerns that shape life in God’s creation.
