Zurawski
v. Texas Screening
- Sunday, February 2, 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.
- Zion Lutheran
Church, 3606 Beauchamp Blvd, Houston, TX 77009
The
Service, Justice, and Diversity Team at Zion Lutheran Church, in
partnership with the Justice Advocacy Ministry at Christ the King
Lutheran Church, invite you to attend a screening of the
documentary film Zurawski v Texas. Zurawski v.
Texas follows three Texas women who were denied medically necessary
abortion care—Amanda Zurawski, Samantha Casiano, and Dr. Austin
Dennard—as they brought their stories and battled their case up to
the Texas Supreme Court, with the help of the Center for
Reproductive Rights’ Senior Staff Attorney Molly Duane. While their
case was not successful, and since its conclusion three pregnant
women with complications have died in Texas due to abortions not
being provided when needed, the Texas abortion ban can be fixed.
After the screening, join a postcard writing campaign to urge the
Texas legislature, now in session, to change the Texas abortion ban
so that no women die because their doctor’s hands are tied, and
that doctors do not face criminal charges if they end a pregnancy
that threatens the mother’s life. Can’t attend the screening but
would still like to advocate? Sign a virtual postcard here: https://secure.everyaction.com/IY53ijZ0mkGJvyRqe2O90A2.
Postcards are provided by Texas Impact, an interfaith justice
advocacy organization based in Austin.
Sandwiches and drinks will be provided at the screening. Please
register for planning purposes at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/zurawski-v-texas-screening-tickets-1207222568199. Contact Chris Hicks at chrishicks222@gmail.com
for more information. Donations to support this postcard advocacy
campaign are gratefully accepted at: https://texasimpact.org/.
